Workspace Calculator Hybrid Work
Annual rent expenditure can be decreased by means that the calculator estimates the money the organization can save on its yearly rent expenses by implementing the workspace changes suggested by the calculator.
The “Annual rent expenditure” refers to the amount of money that the organization pays in rent per year for their workspace, and the calculator suggests that this expense can be decreased by reducing the amount of space needed for fixed workspaces and by having more employees work from home, which would require less office space.
The estimated amount of savings is calculated based on the total square footage saved by having fewer fixed workspaces and by having more employees work from home, multiplied by the cost per square foot of the workspace.
Calculation of fixed and flexible workspaces:
Calculate the number of employees working from home:
(number_of_employees) x (percentage_of_flexible_employees)
Calculate the number of employees working from the office:
(number_of_employees) – (number_of_home_employees)
Calculate the total number of workspaces needed for office employees:
office_employees x average_weekly_work_days / 5
Calculate the total number of flexible workspaces needed:
number_of_home_employees x average_weekly_work_days / 5
Calculate the total number of fixed workspaces needed:
total_workspaces_needed – total_flexible_workspaces_needed
Calculation of space and cost savings:
Calculate the total square footage needed for fixed workspaces:
fixed_workspaces_needed x average_sq_ft_per_employee
Calculate the total square footage saved by having flexible workspaces:
flexible_workspaces_needed x average_sq_ft_per_employee
Calculate the percentage of space saved:
total_sq_ft_saved / (total_sq_ft_needed – total_sq_ft_saved)
Calculate the annual rent expenditure savings:
total_sq_ft_saved x cost_per_sq_ft
